Who Is Toxic Director Geetu Mohandas? Filmmaker in the Spotlight After Yash Film Teaser Goes Viral

admin4704 mins

Filmmaker Geetu Mohandas has come into the limelight following the release of the teaser for the much-anticipated film Toxic. Starring Kannada superstar Yash, the teaser was unveiled on January 8, 2024, on the actor’s birthday and has since gone viral across social media platforms.

While Yash’s intense screen presence has impressed fans worldwide, the gripping tone and powerful visuals of the teaser have also drawn attention to its director, Geetu Mohandas. The teaser opens with a striking and intense sequence, sparking curiosity about the film’s storyline and elevating interest in the filmmaker behind the project.

Geetu Mohandas: From Child Actor to Acclaimed Director

Geetu Mohandas, born as Gayathri Das in Kerala to Mohandas and his wife Latha, began her journey in cinema at the young age of just five. She made her acting debut in 1986 alongside legendary actor Mohanlal, earning widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. Her performance won her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist, marking an early milestone in her career.

She went on to act in several popular Malayalam films, including Sayam Sandhya, Veendum, Rariram, and the highly successful En Bommakutti Ammavukku. In 2000, she transitioned into adult roles with Mohanlal’s film Life Is Beautiful and later appeared in movies such as Thenkasipattanam, Kannaki, Sethumadhavan, Rappakal, Aakashagopuram, and Nammal Thammil.

Her performance in Akale earned her the Kerala State Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Malayalam Actress, further cementing her reputation as a talented performer.

Stepping Into Direction and International Recognition

After her last acting role in Nammal Thammil (2009), Geetu Mohandas shifted her focus to filmmaking. She made her directorial debut the same year with the Malayalam short film Kelkkunnundo, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and won three international awards for Best Short Film.

In 2013, she directed her first feature film, Liar’s Dice, which received two National Film Awards and was selected as India’s official entry for the 87th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film brought her international acclaim and established her as a strong voice in Indian independent cinema.

Spotlight Returns With Toxic

With Toxic, Geetu Mohandas returns to the mainstream spotlight, this time as the director of one of the most talked-about upcoming Indian films. The viral teaser has not only heightened excitement around Yash’s role but has also reignited interest in Geetu’s inspiring journey—from a celebrated child actor to an internationally acclaimed filmmaker.
