Ayodhya is set to expand its food distribution infrastructure with the construction of 19 new Annapurna Bhavans at a total cost of ₹3.5 crore. These facilities will support fair-price shopkeepers (kotedaars) and strengthen the public food supply system, ensuring subsidized food reaches the underprivileged more efficiently.

Under this government initiative, Annapurna Bhavans will be allotted to licensed ration dealers across both rural and urban regions. The project is rapidly progressing across the state, and Ayodhya has now received approval for its next phase of construction.

Cost and Implementation

Each Annapurna Bhavan will be built at a cost of ₹8.46 lakh.

  • Urban areas: Executive Officers of municipal bodies will monitor construction.
  • Rural areas: The Rural Development Agency will be responsible.

Out of the 19 new buildings:

  • 13 will be constructed in urban regions
  • 6 will be built in rural blocks

The District Supply Office had earlier submitted a proposal for 102 Annapurna Bhavans, to be funded through departmental allocations as well as MGNREGA. The state government has approved 27 proposals and released funds for 19 buildings, with construction expected to begin soon.

District Supply Officer Brijesh Kumar Mishra confirmed that the new buildings will be established in areas including Rudauli, Nagar area, Mawai, Kumarganj, and Bikapur. The executing agencies must complete the work by March 2026.

Once construction is completed, the buildings will first be handed over to the District Supply Department. After verification, they will be allotted to government-authorized ration dealers.

Key Statistics

  • Total fair-price shops (Annapurna Bhavans) in the district: 980
  • Newly constructed Annapurna Bhavans so far: 62
  • Under-construction (approved) buildings: 19

The initiative aims to strengthen food security, streamline ration distribution, and provide better facilities to ration dealers—ultimately benefiting thousands of families dependent on the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Ayodhya.
