Iran has launched retaliatory action following recent strikes by the United States and Israel. Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, an Iranian Shahed drone reportedly crashed in central Dubai, triggering a massive explosion. A viral video circulating on social media shows the drone descending into a densely populated area of the city before exploding between two buildings, with flames rising into the air.

Earlier, Iran had targeted alleged US military bases in Gulf countries as part of its counteroffensive. However, the drone crash in Dubai has further intensified concerns about regional security and civilian safety.

What Is the Shahed Drone?

The Shahed drone is considered one of the most dangerous unmanned aerial vehicles in Iran’s arsenal. It has a reported range of up to 2,500 kilometers and is relatively low-cost compared to other military drones. The UAV can carry a payload of approximately 30 to 50 kilograms.

Variants of the Shahed drone have reportedly been used by groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels in previous conflicts across the region.

White House: Trump Monitored Operation Live

According to a statement released by the White House, former US President Donald Trump monitored the military situation overnight from his Mar-a-Lago estate along with members of his national security team. During the operation, Trump also reportedly spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

UN Security Council Calls Emergency Meeting

Following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was convened.

Russia’s UN mission stated that Russia and China requested the urgent session regarding what they described as “unprovoked aggression” by the US and Israel against Iran. The meeting was scheduled for 4:00 PM local time on Saturday. France, Bahrain, and Colombia also reportedly supported the call for the emergency session.

In its statement, Russia said it would demand that the US and Israel immediately halt what it termed “illegal actions” and move toward political and diplomatic solutions.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to address the Security Council. Earlier, he condemned the escalating military tensions in West Asia, stating that the use of force by the US and Israel against Iran — and Iran’s subsequent retaliation — undermines international peace and security.

Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to de-escalate tensions.

The situation remains highly volatile as diplomatic efforts intensify to prevent further escalation in the region.
