Not Nadella or Pichai: Jayshree Ullal Emerges as the Richest Indian Professional Manager

Jayshree Ullal

When discussions turn to the most powerful Indian-origin leaders in global technology, names like Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai usually dominate the conversation. Both head some of the world’s most influential companies and are among Silicon Valley’s most recognisable faces. However, when it comes to personal wealth, neither currently holds the top spot.

According to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, the title of the richest Indian professional manager now belongs to Jayshree Ullal, the CEO and Chairperson of Arista Networks.

Jayshree Ullal Tops the Rich List With ₹50,000+ Crore Net Worth

The latest Hurun rankings place Jayshree Ullal at the top among Indian-origin professional managers, with an estimated net worth of ₹50,170 crore. This figure puts her far ahead of other prominent global executives.

For comparison, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, ranks second with a net worth of around ₹9,770 crore. Sundar Pichai, who leads Google, stands much lower on the list with a net worth of approximately ₹5,810 crore.

Other Indian-origin executives featured include Nikesh Arora, Shantanu Narayen, Indra Nooyi, and Ajit Jain, but none come close to Ullal’s wealth.

How Arista Networks Drove Massive Wealth Creation

Jayshree Ullal has been leading Arista Networks since 2008, transforming it into one of the most important players in cloud networking and data centre technology. The company has benefited immensely from the global shift toward cloud computing and AI-driven infrastructure.

In 2024 alone, Arista Networks reported revenues of nearly $7 billion, marking a growth of almost 20 percent year-on-year, according to Forbes. Ullal personally owns close to 3 percent of Arista’s shares, which accounts for the majority of her fortune.

Hurun noted that her success highlights how leadership roles in high-growth global tech companies can generate wealth on a scale rarely seen outside company founders.

An Indian-Origin Leader Shaped by Global Experience

Though she is now based in San Francisco, Ullal’s journey has deep Indian roots. Born in London in 1961 to an Indian family, she grew up in New Delhi and completed her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary.

She later moved to the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San Francisco State University, followed by a master’s degree in engineering management from Santa Clara University.

Her early career began in the semiconductor industry, with stints at Fairchild Semiconductor and Advanced Micro Devices, where she worked on high-speed memory technologies for global giants like IBM and Hitachi.

From Cisco to Building a Silicon Valley Powerhouse

Ullal’s career took a decisive turn when she joined Cisco Systems after its acquisition of Crescendo Communications in 1993. At Cisco, she played a key role in building the company’s switching and data centre businesses.

Over more than 15 years, she helped scale Cisco’s operations into multi-billion-dollar revenue streams, eventually overseeing businesses generating nearly $15 billion in combined revenue.

In 2008, she was appointed CEO of Arista Networks by founders Andy Bechtolsheim and David Cheriton. Under her leadership, Arista went public in 2014 on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: ANET) and steadily rose to global prominence.

Global Recognition and Industry Influence

Jayshree Ullal’s leadership has earned her widespread recognition. She has been featured on Barron’s list of the world’s best CEOs and Fortune magazine’s list of top global business leaders.

Today, she stands as a symbol of how Indian-origin professionals are shaping the future of global technology—not just through influence, but through unprecedented wealth creation.
