Team India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has dismissed all speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s future in international cricket, praising the former captain’s commanding performance in the series opener against South Africa.
Kohli’s Vintage Century Silences Doubts
Returning to India’s ODI side, the 37-year-old Virat Kohli delivered a stunning reminder of his class with a vintage 135 — an innings that blended aggression, control, and determination. Facing a strong South African attack, Kohli immediately signaled intent by launching big sixes early in his innings, putting the opposition under pressure.
Once set, Kohli shifted seamlessly into his trademark rhythm — rotating the strike efficiently and finding boundaries with clinical precision. His composed batting ensured India remained ahead throughout the chase, ultimately sealing a crucial win in the first ODI.
Kotak Praises Kohli’s Composure & Fitness
After India’s victory, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak called Kohli’s century “an outstanding knock” and praised his sense of responsibility at the crease.
“It was an outstanding knock. He batted really well and showed why he is a world-class player,” Kotak said.
Addressing concerns about Kohli’s back — something that sparked chatter when physios checked on him during the match — Kotak clarified that everything is absolutely fine.
“As far as I know, his back is okay. I don’t understand why we need to speculate about such things,” Kotak added.
Kohli’s 135-run innings, featuring 11 fours and 7 sixes, also quietened ongoing conversations about his future in ODIs, especially with the 2027 World Cup on the horizon — a tournament Kohli has expressed interest in playing.
“No Questions About Virat Kohli’s Future” – Kotak
Kotak firmly shut down any doubts about Kohli’s longevity, pointing out the batter’s elite fitness and sensational form.
“The way he’s batting, he’s just brilliant. His performance and fitness speak for themselves. There are no questions about anything,” Kotak stated.
He also dismissed speculation about both Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s long-term plans, saying the dressing room is focused on enjoying the game, preparing well, and benefitting from the experience both senior players bring.
“We enjoy our practice sessions. Rohit and Virat are performing very well and constantly guiding the youngsters,” Kotak concluded.
